How to Troubleshoot Slow Running Computer?

1. Hard drive is running out of sapce.
2. Various programs have been installed/removed leaving behind junk files and confusing the software.
3. Data Corruption.
4. Incompatible drivers.
5. Overheating problem..

Tips are given below for Microsoft Windows users, can be very handy while troubleshooting a slow running computer.

Run Scandisk or some third party tools to ensure that there is nothing physically wrong with the computer hard disk drive. You can also use Defrag utility to help ensure that data is arranged in the best possible order.

Make sure that there is at least 250-500MB of free hard disk drive space. This extra space enables the computer to have room for the swap file to increase in size as well as room for temporary files.

If you're running any anti-virus program on the computer, spyware protection program, or other security application make sure it's not running in the background as you're trying to work. Generally these programs begin to scan the computer it can decrease the overall performance of your computer.

While troubleshooting slow running computer, you need to verify that the Device Manager has no conflicts. Ensure you've got the latest & compatible drivers for your computer.
Make sure your computer and processor is not overheating. At last, if none of the mentioned solutions fix your issues, it is recommended that you either reinstall Windows and or wipe out everything and then start over.

If you're not able to fix a slow running computer after going over each of the given recommendations, it may possible that system is experiencing a more serious hardware related issues for instance, failing a hardware device.
